🌱 Exciting News for the Brooklyn Skate Garden Community

On Tuesday, March 3rd, NYC Parks Department and The Skatepark Project will present preliminary designs for the Brooklyn Skate Garden at Brooklyn Community Board 8’s Parks & Recreation Committee Meeting. The meeting will take place on March 3 at 6pm, at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum at 145 Brooklyn Ave.; community members of all ages are welcome and warmly encouraged to come out and share their support for the BSG.

This is a huge milestone—six years in the making—and a defining moment for the future of the BSG, Mount Prospect Park and the NYC skateboarding community.

🌍 A Vision Rooted in Legacy, Nature, and Community

Our vision has always been bold and clear:

To create a safe, inclusive, multi-use, sustainable, world-class Skate Garden inspired by the legacy of Pablo Ramirez—a place where skateboarding, nature, creativity, and community come together.

Pablo knew that skateboarding is a force for connection, expression, and belonging. The BSG carries that vision forward—creating a space where people can discover their voice, build skills and confidence, and find community, among families and neighbors enjoying a beautifully updated green public space.

🌿 World-Class Green Design by MNLA

We are honored that MNLA (Mathews Nielsen Landscape Architects) is  part of the BSG design team.

Renowned for designing iconic urban parks and public spaces, MNLA  combines strong conceptual storytelling with ecological and climate-resilient landscapes.

Visitors to NYC gems Little Island and Brooklyn Bridge Park already know their work.

The BSG will be another landmark design— sharing a powerful story about community, vitality, nature, and urban culture.

🧠 Clearing Up Confusion: BSG Means More Green Space, Not Less

Since the BSG was announced in 2024, people worried about losing green space or park access have wondered how the BSG will fit into Mount Prospect Park. Here’s the truth:

👉 The BSG will does not reduce green space—it adds it. The Skate Garden will deliver:

• New trees and climate-tolerant native plantings

• Stormwater and sustainable landscape infrastructure

• Improved ecology and biodiversity – more trees and new plantings

• A shared, welcoming space for all

This is landscape as public infrastructure—benefiting skaters, families, seniors, walkers, and nature alike.
